Disaster Response: Alabama

My heart simply hurts from seeing video and photos of the destruction caused by tornados that struck Rainsville, Alabama on April 27, 2011. 33 people were killed.

Four tornados cut a path of destruction a half mile wide and 33 miles long. That would be the distance driving along Route 9  from Falmouth to Bowdoin. I can only imagine the devastation if tornados struck communities along the way: Cumberland, North Yarmouth, Yarmouth, Durham, Pownal.

I can feel bad about it. And do nothing.

I can feel pity, and contribute some money. And do nothing else.

I can feel the leading of the Lord. And come alongside real lives, bringing hope and love to those who need it most.

That is why I am asking for your help. I will be going with Adventures in Missions to Rainsville on June 9. 

Who am I to think that I can actually make a difference? I cannot do this by myself. I am completely dependent upon God for strength and wisdom. And I am praying for you to partner with me to do what we can to show the love of Christ in the midst of shattered dreams and lives.

What can you do? Give directly to AIM and fund the relief effort.

I am also asking for gift cards from Lowe's and Walmart. We can give them out to local organizations and families in need of cleaning supplies, tools, clothing and food in the area.

It's been nearly a month, yet many people are still struggling to recover. Would you please prayerfully consider what you can do to help them?
